Villa Meligunis is situated in the ancient fishermen's quarter, one of the most
suggestive of the old centre of Lipari, and is framed by a maze of
characteristic
laneways and tiny squares. The Hotel is a result of an attentive and skilful restoration of an elegant seventeenth century villa. It is an exclusive hotel, full of charm, and very close to the hydrofoil port and the tiny town square of Marina
Corta. The rooftop terrace of the Hotel, where the excellent typical Aeolian restaurant is located, as well as the swimming pool, has a stunning view of the sea and the
surrounding mountains, and the monumental fortress of the "castello". The "castello", ancient civitas, the home of many civilisations, goes back six thousand years in time, as evidenced by the numerous archaeological treasures and relics beautifully displayed
at the local museum, is one of the most important in the Mediterranean.
Around the fortress area there are many churches, in various architectural styles, from the Norman period to eighteenth century Baroque, including the majestic "San Bartolomeo" cathedral and its cloister from the XII century, just recently discovered.
A shuttle bus service runs between the Hotel and the beach of Canneto, only four kilometres away, where one can rent sun chairs and umbrellas.
We look forward to welcoming you to Lipari to share with us the richness of its history, the colours of its sea and vegetation, and to experience the many
sensations that being part of this unique historical treasure of the Mediterranean offers.
