The hotel is actually made up of three houses and towers: the old tower, the Kraiterhaus with its own tower, the Eulenturm, and the Wagenhaus. Each house and tower is unique in style and architecture. Some terraces give us enjoy a wonderful view. The Turm, the old tower, dates from the 13th century, and has over the centuries served as fortification, courthouse, and jail, before being turned into the inn our guests have come to love.
The local chronicles have it that in the wintertime, the peasants and serfs of the area deliberately waited for the snow to block their paths home, so they could stay at the Turmwirt for days and play cards, drink, argue, share a laugh and give each other a good hiding. The players took turns in taking short breaks for a nap on the bench. Before they left, each had the right to a proper meal on the house: and necessary that was too, what with facing the long hard way home and, worse, their wives' wrath once at home. Many things may have changed since those times, but one thing has survived to this day: the warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes people never want to leave.
